It's just been reported that a truck driver has run over a number of pedestrians in New York City’s Tribeca neighbourhood, more specifically at West Street and Chambers Street, near Stuyvesant High School.

The police were reportedly responding to calls that at least five were shot in the area, but as they arrived it was clear the injuries came from a crash.

NBC News reports that a box truck headed the wrong way down a bicycle path, mowing over several people with six reported dead. The driver then collided with another rental truck where he got out of his vehicle with a gun. The police reportedly shot him, where he is now in custody.

The NYPD tweeted that only one person is in custody with no "others outstanding." The investigation is ongoing.

Twitter users who were in the area tweeted that they heard gunshots, advising everyone to stay safe. Stuyvesant High School dismissed it's students from class, where the streets were packed with onlookers.

Singer/songwriter, Josh Groban, was out walking his dog when he heard gunfire, detailing everything that happened since.

Details on the shooting are still being updated. We'll continue to keep you posted.
