Cardi B sets the record straight.
It's been two months since "Bodak Yellow" first hit the eardrums of hip-hop fans the world over. In that time, Cardi B has gone from being what most perceived as a novelty music act who emerged from the gallows of reality TV to a force of nature in the music business. Her single is already the highest-charting unassisted female effort since Nicki Minaj's "Anaconda," and there doesn't seem to be much standing in the way of her nabbing her first No. 1 on the Hot 100 chart in the near future. Something else that the Internet rumor mill has also been putting in her future plans since Sunday: marriage.
The buzz has been all about Cardi's alleged engagement to Migos member Offset, after the two have cultivated a budding romance that the public has only seen glimpses of. Host of The Breakfast Club Charlamagne Tha God was interviewing Cardi B at the MTV Video Music Awards this past weekend and asked her about the rumored proposal and her supposed acceptance. At first, her answer was glib, pointing out that she had no ring on her finger in the form of a rhetorical question in singsong form. However, after she'd had her fun off the top, she got more serious with her answer.
“I’m a woman,” she told Charlamagne. “Every woman, I think, wants to get married and wants to have children. It’s never too early to get married now. You know, if you want to propose to me, you can.” In addition to that response, Us Weekly has also confirmed Cardi's engagement denial, based on her red carpet quote to the news outlet. “Looking like I’m getting married,” Cardi told the outlet on the red carpet about her white dress. “But I’m not there.” Whether or not wedding bells are on the horizon for the hip-hop couple, it's not like it's a far-out assumption to make either. The Migos rapper recently copped Cardi some fine-looking jewelry, which reportedly set him back an estimated $60,000. They say money isn't everything in a relationship, but that kind of gesture is worth its weight in something though.
