"The Late Show With Stephen Colbert" did not expect crack sales to be part of the explanation.
Charlamagne Tha God is a staple of hip hop commentary as part Power 105.1’s Breakfast Club show, and has made a name for himself with his fearless (and sometimes trolling) commentary of the music industry. He finally made it to late night TV last night, appearing as a guest on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”
The two immediately connected over growing up in South Carolina, including the realization that Stephen Colbert’s brother taught social studies at Charlamagne’s middle school. The interview touches on Charlamagne’s youth, the adoption of his moniker to keep his identity secret while making crack sales as a youth and his style of interviewing.
It puts the often-maligned Charlamagne in a new context. In some ways, he’s a better journalist than most of us.
