With several famous celebrities co-signing the addicting game, Fortnite picked up a long list of free support. The battle royale styled game became popular for several reasons. The most notable reason would be that fact that it's free. Anyone who owns an Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, or a mobile phone, can play Fortnite free of charge. Epic Games makes its money from microtransactions, a system that keeps gamers spending money by offering new cosmetics and other loot.

In April, Fortnite brought in $296 million, which is no surprise. According to Fortnite's blog, the massive and innovative game has amassed 125 million active users in under a year. In celebration of reaching the unprecedented milestone of 125 million users, Epic Games released more information about their upcoming eSports competition. Epic Games announced that they will be "supporting community organized events, online events, and major organized competitions all over the world, where anyone can participate."
