French Montana speaks about his upcoming album, "Excuse My French," and how many copies of it he plans to buy personally, as well he talks about linking up with Miley Cyrus, and gives his thoughts on Rick Ross' recent controversy.
French Montana released the full official tracklist for his upcoming album, Excuse My French, the other day, and the large amount of features definitely got people talking. In a new interview with MTV Hive, French talks on the Bad Boy debut, including some features that are not on there, like a Miley Cyrus collaboration. As well, he talks on how much he expects Excuse My French to sell (he's said previously it'll be the best album of the decade), how many copies he'll buy personally, and current topics like Rick Ross' lyrics controversy. Check out excerpts from the interview bellow.
'Excuse My French'Â is available on pre-order this week. Honestly, how many copies will you be buying for yourself?
Probably about⦠Iâmma buy me enough to give out when I go out on tour. Like, a hundred out of my pocket. Thatâs $10 a piece. Iâll have the label buy a 1000 or something and Iâll take it from them. What Iâmma buy? A hundred.
Do you think 'Excuse My French' will be well received from the onset or will it be a slow burn?
I donât know how it is but it doesnât matter what it sells. Itâll still be a slower burn because of the way the game is. I mean, look at Lil Wayne who went from selling a million [for Tha Carter III] the first week to selling 200,000 [for I Am Not A Human Being II]. I feel like the gameâs not the same. Itâs not the art. You just got to have a good product. The only thing thatâs gonna sell is good product.
Speaking of friends, I saw you hanging out with Miley Cyrus at SXSW this year. How the hell did that happen?
Thatâs my dog. Thatâs my peoples. We became friends at the Clive Davis Grammy party. I was sitting there with Puff. She was sitting there with Wiz [Khalifa]. She just kept looking at me laughing, I kept on looking at her laughing. I said, âWhat you laughing at?â She said, âI know you high like me.â After that, we became mad cool. I went over to the studio, just kicking it.
So youâre going to collaborate with Miley Cyrus?
Yeah. We working on something now. Thatâs just cool peoples.
Youâre affiliated with several camps including Maybach Music Group. Any thoughts on Rick Rossâ controversial lyrics on âU.O.E.N.O.â and his subsequent falling out with Reebok?
I feel like a lot of people did worse than that and people didnât judge them. They couldâve taken it light on him, understanding that it was a mistake. People make mistakes; we all human. Thatâs about it. As far as Ross, I know him personally. I know heâs a great guy. Heâs like a big brother to me and Iâm a big fan of Reebok. I canât wait for them to cut me one of them big checks.
