Leiner will be greatly missed.
Movie and television director Danny Leiner has passed away at the age of 57. As reported by Varitey, Leiner passed away on Thursday. Leiner brought the world a number of classics, but Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle and Dude, Where’s My Car are two of his most famous works. Lenier brought the world the comedic duo of Harold and Kumar, and actors John Cho and Kal Penn took to Twitter to show their respects for the director that put them on the map.
"I am so saddened to hear about the passing of Danny Leiner, who became my friend when he directed Harold and Kumar go to Whitecastle," wrote Cho, who played Harold. "Danny was so sharp, so funny, and a great dinner companion. To his friends and family, my deepest condolences." Penn, who played Kumar, echoed his statements. "Very sad to learn that our friend Danny Leiner passed away," he wrote. "We initially got to know each other when he directed Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle. Sending my love to his family & friends. He was such a funny, thoughtful, encouraging person."
Leiner's first project after college was the 1996 comedy Layin’ Low, starring Jeremy Piven and Edie Falco. His next effort was Dude, Where’s My Car?, which helped launch his career. Leiner directed episodes of shows including The Sopranos, Freaks and Geeks, The Office, and Arrested Development.
