A conspiracy theory posits that Kanye invented the car accident to cover up injuries sustained in a fistfight.
Kanye West's 2003 single "Through the Wire," widely considered one of the finest debuts in rap history, tells the story of Kanye's recovery in the hospital following a harrowing automobile accident that left him with a broken jaw. A minor Twitter firestorm ignited Thursday morning after @Flyer_thanu2 implied that everything we know about the song is a lie.
"What's crazy is Kanye still got the world thinking he was in a bad car accident October 2002... all Im'a say is come to Chicagoland and ask," he wrote.
The Twittersphere exploded with confusion and indignation; Spin posted screenshots of court documents from the lawsuit following Kanye's accident.
Even if the story was fabricated... the song still bangs.
