The chugging 80s synth line has been a consistent force in pop radio over the last few months, from Ariana Grande's "Love Me Harder," to Nick Jonas' "Jealous," to Taylor Swift's "Style," it might be the year's most proven hit-making technique next to a chunky DJ Mustard riff.
Kehlani has already made her way through plenty of Bay-infused sounds through growing up in Oakland, as well as working with one the regions most prominent crews, HBK Gang, so today she's decided to take a more pop-leaning route with a record that uses a similarly propulsive synth to the aforementioned hits. We already know the singer has a promising career ahead of her, but could this be her breakthrough?
You Should Be Here is out April 28th.
We were in a weird place
Crazy, how a person you love can just change
Now I am learning to realize we needed our space
I could never hurt you, we used to be great
