Lil Mama has been cast as the late Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes in the upcoming TLC biopic for VH1.
Lil Mama has not been making a lot of noise recently. The Brooklyn emcee had a major hit with "Lip Gloss" a couple years back, as well as a stint on "America's Best Dance Crew", but has otherwise flown under the radar. However, it's just been confirmed that she will be playing the late Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes in the upcoming TLC biopic on VH1.
MC Lyte was the first to announce the casting at Vibe's Impact awards. âI don't know if I'm supposed to say, but I will. She just got the role of Left Eye in TLC's new movie," said Lyte, in reference to rapper turnt actress. She also talked of how she's helping Lil Mama out. "I'm gonna put a little bit of concentration and focus on helping to uplift a sister, who is talented, smart, witty, and just had her chances cut too short and that's Lil Mama, 'cause she is a talented young lady. So I want to see her do some beautiful things."
Surving TLC members Tionne âT-Bozâ Watkins and Rozonda âChilliâ Thomas will serve as executive producers for the movie, which is still in pre-production.
Lyte also talked about dropping an all-female crew track with Mama. âWeâre working on a hip-hop sisters ârecord,â she said. âIâll be doing songs with her, with [Lady of] Rage. Monie [Love] will do a song with Yo-Yo. Weâre gonna mix it up. Itâs gonna be nice.â
As previously reported the remaining members of TLC are planning a new album and tour along with the biopic. Until then, we'll have to wait and see if Lil Mama can fill the shoes of the legendary and widely-beloved Left Eye.
