"One of the most valuable endorsement contracts for an NFL rookie."
LSU's stud running back Leonard Fournette figures to be a top pick in this year's NFL Draft, and wherever he goes he'll be repping for Under Armour.
According to ESPN's Darren Rovell, Under Armour signed Fournette to a multi-year endorsement deal which is allegedly one of the most valuable endorsement contracts ever for an NFL rookie. He also previously announced that he'll be represented by Jay Z's Roc Nation Sports.
"We have a roster of athletes that we choose and we're never going to be that company that just collects athletes just to have the most," said Ryan Kuehl, the company's senior vice president of sports marketing. "We look for special people, who have the talent, the character, the story and the sense of purpose. Leonard Fournette fits that model."
"When we met with Leonard, we told him we thought he was a once-in-a-lifetime running back and that the partnerships he had an opportunity to do with us would be historic," said Michael Yormark, president and chief of strategy and branding at Roc Nation.
Fournette will join UA's elite fraternity of NFL players which includes Cam Newton, Tom Brady, Julio Jones and Demaryius Thomas, though they have lacked any running back star power until now.
The exact details of the contract weren't revealed but Michael Yormark said that, financially speaking, this deal is "historic."
Under Armour plans to use Fournette to pitch products across all platforms including lifestyle, training, footwear, connected fitness and the brand's NFL Combine Authentic line.
