The wise baritone of Mick Jenkins turns to a snarl on the Joey Bada$$ assisted "Jerome." The closing track from Jenkins' breakthrough mixtape The Waters features a Biggie sample and a menacing church organ, and Mick rattles off bars filled with references on deck - Halo, Mick Foley, and Dancing With Wolves all get namedropped in the first verse alone. Joey Badass sounds like he's frothing at the mouth a la Elaine from Seinfeld, spitting furious rabid lyrics and channeling his inner Ol' Dirty Bastard (R.I.P). For an album called The Waters, this track is pretty much the polar opposite - the bluest of flames.
Hardly, stuntin’ on the n***s that’s frontin’
I know they do not want it, I run over n****, that’s punnin'
No, I ain’t trying to kick it, I’m cookin’ no bun in the oven
I need it on the stove, push it to the people off a cottage grove
Pot of gold, flooded more than Hollygrove
Mothafuck a Hollywood, never take a holiday, I’m spotting foes
