The second half of the season comes nearly a year after the first.
After premiering the first half of season five in May 2018, Netflix is bringing fans the second half of Arrested Development's anticipated season on March 15. There has been much controversy surrounding this release, especially since Jeffrey Tambor, who stars as George Bluth, Sr. and Oscar Bluth on the award-winning show, was axed from the series Transparent following allegations of sexual abuse. Tambor has had a Hollywood history of being difficult and has faced accusations in the past, but he denied that he did anything sexually inappropriate.
“I drove myself and my castmates crazy,” Tambor told The Hollywood Reporter. “Lines got blurred. I was difficult. I was mean. I yelled at Jill — she told me recently she was afraid of me. I yelled at the wonderful [executive producer] Bridget Bedard in front of everybody. I made her cry. And I apologized and everything, but still, I yelled at her. The assistant directors. I was rude to my assistant. I was moody."
"Sometimes I didn’t talk at all," Tambor continued. "And this is where the reader says, ‘So what?’ You know? ‘You’re coming in from the Palisades, you drive in, you get a good paycheck, you get to play one of the best roles in the world. So. What.’ But I was scared, because I was a cisgender male playing Maura Pfefferman. And my whole thing was, ‘Am I doing it right? Am I doing it right? Am I doing it right?’ To the point that I worried myself to death.”
Despite it all, Netflix is pushing forward with Arrested Development and has dropped a new trailer just ahead of the show's release date.
“In the second half of Arrested Development’s fifth season, pressures mount on the Bluth family as Buster heads toward a murder trial,” Netflix’s series synopsis reads. “The Bluth company is on the hook to build a ‘smart’ border wall that puts them in debt and risks exposing a software hoax perpetrated by George-Michael. Soon the gay mafia is involved and it appears that even Michael can’t save the family this time. And Tobias becomes a Golden Girl.”
