Nike introduces OSU's new uniforms for Michigan game.
Every year on the last Saturday in November, the Ohio State Buckeyes and Michigan Wolverines engage in one of the most historic rivalries in all of sport. This year, the Buckeyes, with the help from Nike, are making a statement with their latest on-field look.
According to Nike, OSU's game against Michigan will mark the first time this season that the team will wear all-white jerseys and pants (incorporating the Nike Vapor Untouchable Speed uniform). Gray accents and a metallic silver pattern throughout the uniform honor the Buckeyes’ tradition of toughness and remind their rivals of their hard earned (and re-earned) nickname, the Silver Bullets, which describes the squad’s historically staunch defense.
Here’s what you need to know about their new alternate uniform, per Nike,
- A chrome silver helmet channels that decades-old nickname. Stripes across the sleeves and down the pants are blackand metallic silver, while player numbers are outlined in reflective silver. Scarlet — which represents excellence, passion and pride —covers the glove palms and cleats. A chrome red block O on the jeweled neck pad completes the look.
- A Buckeye wolfpattern on the helmet, base layers, socks and within the numbers is meant to represent ultimate predators. In this instance, elite athletes — ones at the top of their game — inspired designers. Ohio State believes its roster is packed with these athletes who embody ruthless grit, heart and toughness every time they take the field.
- Ohio State will be wearing a new gray and red colorway of the LeBron Soldier 11 football cleat. The synthetic upper has four elastic straps that provide adjustable lock-down support, while triangle-shape studs across the bright red chrome plate give the traction needed for acceleration and quick changes in direction.
The #8 Buckeyes are coming off a dominant 48-3 victory over Michigan State this past weekend. Unfortunately for OSU fans, they suffered a 55-24 loss to Iowa just the week before which puts them at 8-2 on the season.
Ohio State will don their new alternate uniforms for the first time on November 25th when they take on the Wolverines at Michigan Stadium.
