Chinx was gunned down in Queens the early hours of May 17, 2015 as he left a hookah lounge in his Porsche. NYPD detectives are now saying that they believe the murder was carried out by someone jealous of his success.

In a news report filed by Fox 5 NY, Lieutenant Richard Rudolph and Lieutenant Louron Hall of the NYPD assert the the killer did not shoot into Chinx's vehicle from a car but while standing right next to it.

"I wouldn't call it a set up, but was he a target? Yes...So, we believe our shooter walked up and fired into that car," Lt. Rudolph said. "[Chinx] was not involved, as far as we know, with any type of serious drugs. But he was about to make it big. He was going to make money. Nobody, who knows anything about this murder specifically, is cooperating with the police at this time."

Lt. Hall encouraged those who may have any information about the shooting to come forward to the police.

"When he arrives at Queens Boulevard and Main Street, that's when an unknown individual approaches the driver's side of Chinx's vehicle...Individuals in the rap industry, we really need those people to come forward," Lt. Hall said.

Chinx's posthumous album Legends Never Die is due out June 3rd.
