We haven't received a full-length album from SchoolBoy Q since he dropped his Black Face LP back in 2016. There have been rumors that a fifth studio album has been in the works, and fans have awaited his return. However, it isn't as if the rapper has disappeared altogether; just last year he was featured on 21 Savage's I Am > I Was (I Am Greater Than I Was) and collaborated with artists including DJ Esco and Kamaiyah, but after it was announced last summer that his forthcoming album was "90-95% done," fans thought that Q would have already released his next record.
Q decided to delay things even further following the untimely death of his good friend and fellow rapper Mac Miller. He told the crowd during a concert in September 2018, "With my n***a gone right now, I just don't feel right putting out an album. As y'all can tell, I'm not my real self right now. I shouldn't even be here right now. But like I said, my n***a Mac would not want me to be in the house sad...I'm just not ready to walk into the radio station and the first thing they ask me is 'So Mac Miller...' I'm not ready to deal with those questions. I'm not ready to put nothing out right now. I'm sorry."
Now, the L.A. rapper is ready.
Got my coins up, my bars up, soon we find 'em
We gon' slide 'em, we lined 'em, straight reclined 'em
Pistol grip, I got all kinds of, I'm not your driver
Shot gon' hit him, he won't answer, I'm blowing ganja
So much work, they call me old school, I remind you
