DC takes a step in the right direction.
DC hasn’t had a great time with their movie universe in the last few years. They did notch a few wins with movies such as Aquaman and Wonder Woman, but the universe has struggled massively. Fans have long stopped taking DC films too serious, but Warner Bros is looking to change that. The upcoming Joker film looks to be amazing, which is a good step in the right direction. DC seems to have another W with its latest film, SHAZAM! As reported by Deadline, DC’s latest movie brought in $56.7 million at the box office on its opening weekend.
“We needed the movie to be its own best friend in terms of creating interest,” Warner Bros. Pictures Group Chairman Toby Emmerich told Deadline. “We had a terrific brand ambassador in Zachary Levi, and putting him out there with the movie was one of the best calling cards we had and was a big part of our marketing strategy and we played that card in a big way,” he continued. “We always wanted the movie to play young, to be very inclusive of younger audiences, for kids to really relate to movie.” $56.7 million may seem like a paltry number next to what Marvel is bringing in for their opening weekends, but it’s a good gain for DC after bombs like Justice League.
