Smokepurpp makes a bold claim.
These days, so many comments are made in one single hour that it's difficult to keep track of what is genuine and what is trolling. In the case of Smokepurpp, the latter is often the case. Not exactly the epitome of serious thought, Purpp has occasionally taken the piss out of those unwilling to laugh at themselves, and lo and behold, it's at it again, dangling a carrot-on-a-stick in front of so many horses. Never one to shy away from gradiosity, or, in this case, delusions of grandeur, Purpp has taken to Twitter to compare himself to one of hip-hop's most influential figures, Kanye West.
Smokepurpp boldly stated "I am Kanye west of the next generation, yes," throwing in Yoda-esque syntax for emphasis. It's difficult to say how exactly he mirrors Yeezy, as their music is vastly different, and Purpp has yet to accomplish the heights of Yeezy's critical and commercial career. Perhaps he simply refers to his penchant for making dubious claims on Twitter, in which case, perhaps there's credence. Otherwise, it's difficult to see this one as anything other than mild feather ruffling.
Yet it would appear that Purpp attempting to rationalize his logic, as caught by Complex. When one Twitter user questioned his comparison, Purpp responded by listing his accomplishments âI started producing, I rap, I harmonize, I bring shit together, and I probably write for your favorite artist." Perhaps we should allow the young rapper to blossom; the sky is, as they say, the limit.
To be fair, Kanye West remains the Kanye West of this generation, seeing as he's currently still making music and inspiring the game's newcomers. One can only wonder whether Purpp will elaborate on the parallel, or simply let this one settle for the time being.
