Nora Darling is back for seconds in Netflix's "She's Gotta Have It" reboot.
The trailer for Spike Lee's She's Gotta Have It: Season 2 is upon us. In some ways, the director enjoyed the critical praise he was more deserving of earlier in his career, after picking up his first Oscar win. In the midst of his critical campaign for BlacKkKlansman, Spike Lee quietly went about the screenplay for the aforementioned She's Gotta Have It: Season 2.
The television series is itself an adaptation of his 2nd big screen project bearing the same name. Take this with a grain of salt, but Spike Lee's controlling nature is what prevented the TV spinoff from going running off course. Spike Lee's signature imprint of "sentimentality" is inherently his own, a characteristic many have condemned as outdated, and facile on a comprehensive level.
And yet, Spike Lee is certainly in his wheelhouse with that "sentimentality" when the story or the characters are light-hearted in nature. You could say, She's Gotta Have It achieved a perfect balance of those impressionable qualities.
Season 2 hopes to pick up where "Nola Darling" left her paintbrush hanging in the Season 1. The original "Nora Darling" portrayed by Tracy Camilla Johns in 1986 was no stranger to putting out flames. The game hasn't changed some 30 years later, just the players. Gone are the clumsy male suitors who wore her patience thin in college. Now comes the challenge of defending her laurels against a bunch of shady art dealers. The new season starts up on May 24, are you intrigued?
