Now that Joey Purp's iiiDrops has had time to ruminate with Save Money fans, next up for a project release in the Chicago-born crew is Towkio. The experimental rapper announced a new EP today, and kicked off the roll out with "Tear Drop."
The EP, Community Service 2, is due out (independently) on July 7th and will contain appearances from Vic Mensa and Joey Purp, with production from Smoko Ono, Mr. Carmack and more. If you haven't been keeping tabs on Towkio, it should be noted that this entire project was created at Rick Rubin's Shangri-La studio in Malibu, with the legendary record executive/producer acting as guide of sorts through out the EP's creative process. So, it's safe to say, expected goodness. This'll be Towkio's follow up to.Wav Theory, also a top-notch project.
On "Tear Drops," Towkio nabs production from Coloring Book collaborator Garren, who creates a gospel feeling with a chopped & screwed vocal sample, piano keys, and a touch of the modern with momentary beeping.
Look out for Community Service 2 next week.
Let me these tears dry
Now I'ma make this song cry
Lead all on the line
Had to watch some friends pass
Man that shit fucked me up
Turned me into Mad Max
