In case you haven't been keeping up with the latest news surrounding Chicago rapper Vic Mensa, let's get you up to speed. The performer was invited to spit some bars at the BET Hip-Hop Awards alongside G Herbo, Nick Grant, and Taylor Bennett during the show and the outcome happened to be a little controversial. The show aired last night and before then, it was rumored that Vic had made some pretty insulting comments about XXXTentacion. After the cypher finally aired, his lyrics became clear to us all as he rhymed, "Only time you bear arms is in a wife beater, loser/Your favorite rapper’s a domestic abuser." He's been receiving backlash for the diss ever since then and it was apparently enough for Charlamagne Tha God to crown him as "Donkey of the Day."

Charlamagne made sure to remind Vic that XXX was killed at the age of 20-years-old and while he may have made some major mistakes in his lifetime, he doesn't have a chance to defend himself against the diss. On top of that, the man's mother was in attendance and had to hear her son being spoken about in that manner after he was celebrated as the "Best New Artist." "Vic, you don't strike me as a clout chaser or a person who says things for shock value," said Charlamagne. "I truly believe you when you say that you are all about holding people accountable for their actions when it comes to violence against women but let's put that energy on the brothers that are alive."

He continued that "getting at a dead man" only distracts from the message that's trying to be conveyed. He proceeded to give Vic Mensa "Donkey of the Day."

Vic has since responded to the controversy by releasing a new song called "Empathy." Listen to it here and peep Charlamagne's explanation below.
