Wale was feeling generous today, perhaps because Obama included his "LoveHate Thing" as the opening song on his Spotify summer playlist. Whatever the reason, he decided to surprise his fans with four new tracks, three of which are freestyles, and the other a lost verse that was once slated for the "Suicide Squad" single "Sucker for Pain." The track that first stands out is the "Brightseat Road Freestyle," not just because it's the opener but also due to its producers -- two Seattle natives in the young Sango and the veteran Jake One.
Indeed, the instrumental is special -- a blissfully smooth backdrop driven by a whirr of spacey frequencies. And Wale's freestyle game ain't lackin' at all, as he's able to reflect on his lasting influence as well as certain things he laments about the industry today. With regard to his past deal with Roc Nation, he remarks that Sean Carter "seen the Future in a n*gga like Desiigner prolly" -- just one example of some of the clever wordplay that can be heard across the four new tracks, which, together, make up the playlist Today....I Got Time!
