The Afropunk festival is fast becoming a global entity.
It's no secret, the Afropunk festival isn't a close-knit community gathering anymore. Somewhere along the way, the organizers got the itch to expand their brand on a global scale - outside the nascent festival grounds in Brooklyn.
Around this time every year, Afropunk announces its intentions to the world. In the year 2019, those include yet another wayfaring expedition into Europe (Paris and London), another in South Africa, for the 3rd year-running in Johannesburg, and the North American variant taking place in Atlanta on October 12 and 13. The preliminary list of performers in Atlanta reads as follows.
Within the same presser, the AFROPUNK organizers also revealed their intentions for the other 4 global iterations, two of which remain undecided with regards to their performing acts - as you'll see below. Bolded text reflects artists chosen in headlining spots.
The lineup will be announced soon.
Jill Scott, FKA Twigs, Kamasi Washington, Gary Clark Jr. Santigold, Lianne La Havas, Danny Brown. Toro Y Moi, Death Grips, J.I.D, Leikeli47, Rico Nasty, Tierra Whack, and IAMDDB.
The lineup will be announced in May,
