Bryson Tiller reflects on a soured relationship in "Run Me Dry."
With the release of his True To Self album in the bag, Bryson Tiller's comeback season continues to unfold in full swing. The Louisville artist is still no doubt securing the bag for his contributions to DJ Khaled's smash hit "Wild Thoughts," and currently, Bryson is in the middle of the "Set It Off Tour" with H.E.R. & Metro Boomin. With an album, a huge single, and a tour already on deck, it's safe to say that Bryson's 2017 run is his best and busiest in a minute. And while True To Self did face a few mixed reviews here and there, the project boasted a few certifiable bangers - including the Boi-1da & Allen Ritter produced "Run Me Dry."
The minimalist instrumental scores an appropriately quiet video, with Bryson opting for subtlety over extravagance. The lights are low and neon filtered, the women undress in a tasteful manner, and even the dirt bikes are more artful than showy. Director Hamish Stephenson brings Bryson's relationship anthem to life in a visually striking way, and while it's not exactly breaking any creative barriers, it's a well shot affair nevertheless.
"Run Me Dry" centers around the trouble Bryson faced while in a complex relationship with his girlfriend. While he clearly loved her to the point of borderline obsession, complexities arose once said girlfriend began spending all his money. Even though Bryson can't help but think back to a time when the dynamic was good, the sex was poppin', and the trust was strong, he knows in his heart that those days are over. Still, when he professes to no longer care, are we really supposed to believe that?
