They've quite literally got the keys.

When Beyoncé and Jay-Z made their stop at Columbia, South Carolina’s Williams-Brice Stadium on August 21st, the expectation was that they’d be giving the city a proper show. But, When they’d make their exit, they would be living with a gift of their own as The Carters were awarded with a key to the city. It was Mayor Steve Benjamin who presented Jay-Z with the honor backstage after the concert and proclaimed that August 21s was officially Beyoncé Knowles-Carter and Shawn Carter Day.”

“Beyoncé and Jay-Z have contributed tremendously to not only popular culture and the entertainment industry but also to humanitarian aid in the United States and around the world,” Mayor Benjamin said. “We’re delighted to proclaim this day in their name and give them yet another reason to come back to our city.”

On twitter, Benjamin uploaded snapshot of the moment in which Jay was given the key, writing: “Late night but what an incredible show at #OTRII in @ColumbiaSC !It was wonderful to have a chance to recognize the humanitarian & cultural contributions of Mr. & Mrs. Carter. August 21st was officially ‘Beyonce Knowles Carter & Shawn Carter Day” in @ColumbiaSC @Beyonce @S_C_.”

The Carters next stop is In Atlanta for a two-night affair this weekend at the newly-minted Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
