Anthony Davis has been dominating the NBA headlines as of late thanks to his very public trade request out of New Orleans. The Pelicans opted not to trade him at the deadline, which resulted in the firing of now-former general manager Dell Demps. Los Angeles Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was asked about the Davis trade and explained how he should have gone about everything a lot differently.

"I think his management people mishandled it," Abdul-Jabbar explained to Yahoo Sports. "When I was leaving Milwaukee, I let them know before the season started and I kept my mouth shut. Just to give them an opportunity to make the best deal they could behind closed doors."

Although, Kareem added that he is sympathetic towards Davis and realizes that if he wants to win a championship, the time is now for a change of scenery.

"He's in a small market and the team's not doing very well, he'd like to go out and win something," Abdul-Jabbar added. "He's made a lot of money to this point and his needs are different and the clock is ticking, so I understand what he's all about."

Davis and the Pelicans are 13th in the Western Conference with a record of 26-33.
