After sharing the supremely underrated First Daze Of Winter EP earlier this year, Maleek Berry has come through with a single primed for the summer (then again, most of his stuff is). "Gimme Life" is a perfectly breezy track that is vibrant and colorful but also feels very compact. Berry's vocals never stretch, instead gliding over perfectly economical beats, often produced by the singer himself. It gives his songs a signature that becomes more apparent as you go through his catalog, and makes them easy to get lost in.
First Daze Of Winter was the sequel to 2016's Last Daze Of Summer, both of which were surrounded by standalone singles and collaborations, often with artists in the Nigerian scene that have included the likes of Wizkid and Davido. He's yet to release his debut album, and while it will be welcomed with open arms when it does arrive, as long as Berry continues to release strong singles and collaborations, he's making everyone's summers that much better. If this isn't music to soundtrack the current heatwave, I don't know what is.
Say my body is your body, yeah
Eh my money is your money, yeah
Why you on your own, you need somebody, yeah
Baby tell me what you want from me, yeah
