This past weekend, Willow Smith and her brother Jaden wowed the audience at The FADER's annual CMJ event with a set of tracks that belied their very young ages. Today, Willow follows Jaden's lead (he released "Jetskis" this morning) and drops a new track. It's called "Female Energy - Freestyle," and its artwork features imagery that, were it included in a movie, would be off limits to the almost-14-year-old.Â
In it, Ms. Smith showcases a strong voice and songwriting that's truly astounding for someone of her age. The track brings to mind the work of down-to-earth R&B artists like Erykah Badu and SZA (the latter of whom graced the stage with Willow at the aforementioned show), comparisons which speak volumes about Smith's precociousness.
It's really out of my control
How you feel is not my problem
I do not want you toÂ
But I don't know how to stop you
